A digital SLR camera can be defined using many features but what really sets it apart is its optical system, clarity of pictures and speed. The optical system makes it possible for a user to see the photo exactly as it is without being altered by digital features.
In a point and shoot digital camera the image that you see through the eyepiece or the LCD screen is digitally generated whereas in a digital SLR camera the image is taken to the eyepiece by mirrors and lenses that reflects the image from one mirror to another and through to the viewfinder. This is generally what a DSLR camera is, It must now be obvious what we mean when we say in a DSLR you see the exact image without any adjustment. So when the photographer takes a picture a shutter flips up letting the light with the image to reflect on the prism and lenses within a split of a second. This is why unlike your typical camera, the speed is ultra fast.
Furthermore, DSLRs have interchangeable lenses to allow for special shots this could be a landscape shot, portrait shot, micro or macro shot. You can even find lenses that are used to for actions shots. Hope the latter point explains the lack of clarity in your normal camera motion pictures. These digital SLRs also have large image sensors that produce high picture quality.
DSLRs come in two different formats. You can use the non-professional one if you want quality but are not able to operate the camera. Besides the cameras come with settings that are automatic, which means you can use them as you get accustomed to the gadget.
